MERRY CHRISTMAS
from Gabrielle in New Mexico
|
Since
I'm too poor to get each of you a present...lol...heres my gift to you
If you
hate I'm sorry there is no return policy,
but if you like it I'll be more than willing to give you an autographed copy...lol
I
decided one day to write a poem, and most of what I had been hearing is
all the
controversy over Christmas so here it is.... Christmas A time where everyone's in a rush A time where everyone makes a fuss Over something as silly as a new doll Spending all day running around the mall Taking time for unimportant things Caring only about the gifts it brings Who really cares about the reason? There is no Knowledge about this season. As long as we get out of school Christmas can't be really dull They say I have freedom of speech Yet still they can continue to teach That saying Christmas hurts everyone Now Holiday is the way it is done. Christmas is a crutch for the weak. There is no Jesus of which they speak Now the point is how much we can sell The Christmas story we will not tell Who really cares about the manger scene? When I can get things fit for a Queen Christmas just isn't the same All anyone sees is the potential fame Can't we go back to the old ways When the Gospel Luke was read on that day Why don't they realize? Why can't they see? That the only one they are hurting is me. Love, Gabrielle |

My favourite Christmas song is “Glade Jul”, which means “Happy Christmas”. Lars, HELGEROA, Norway, and here comes the Norwegian text:
Glade Jul, Hellige Jul, Engler daler ned i skjul.
Salig fred! Himmelsk fred! Toner julenatt her ned! Engler bringer til store og små Bud om Ham som i krybben lå. :/: Fryd deg, hver sjel han har frelst:/: |

The Christmas Tree by
Paul Morton, Elyria, Ohio Grandpa shouldered his ax and he told me to come. (I had asked if he'd take me along.) As we went out the door he was whistling a tune, "Rock of Ages" or some Christmas song. We were going to cut down a tree for our house, then we'd cover its branches with lights. And the night before Christmas we'd all gatgher 'round, and sing Christmas carols all night. As we entered the woods, Grandpa spotted the tree. It was perfect in most every way. And I knew by his eyes that we now saw the tree, the would stand in our house Christmas day. Grandpa circled the tree to make sure of its shape, then he stuck at the trunk with his ax. In a few minutes more we were dragging the tree through the snow as we followed our tracks. "Oh Grandpa," I cried, "it's a wonderful tree!" And my breath in the frosty air swirled. Then I added, "In fact, I am sure when I say, it's the best Christmas tree in the world!" Then my grandpa replied, "It is beautiful, yea, but the best Christmas tree it is not. No, the best Christmas tree in the world was used, long ago in a far away spot. "No, the best Christmas tree was not decked out with lights, though the Light of the World on it hung. And no bright-colored presents were under its limbs, and no carols around it were sung. "And in fact I am sure it did not even look, like this tree what we've cut down today, But an old rugged cross Jesus dragged up the hill where He died to take your sins away." Then, I answered, "But Grandpa, you must be confused. Easter's still quite a long time away. Christ was born in a manger in Bethlehem's cave, and that's why we have Christmas day." Then my grandfather answered, "You are right when you say that at Christmas we think of Christ's birth." Then we looked in my eyes, and he asked me, "And now, can you tell me why He came to earth?" "Why, He came down to die on the cross," I replied. And my grandfather nodded his head. Then he whistled his tune as we went on our way And I thought about what he had said. If we didn't need Easter, Christ would not have come, to be born in a manger one night. But he came down to die for the sins of the world, and to bring us salvation and light. We celebrate Christmas ' cause Jesus left Heaven, it's gold streets and open gates pearled. And the cross that He died on to pay for our sins, it's the best Christmas tree in the world. (C) 1978 |
